On Saturday 4th October 2025, Luxembourg will stage a grand celebration to welcome Grand Duke Guillaume into his new reign. This day forms the heart of a three-day coronation festival (the Trounwiessel) that has been meticulously planned to honour the transition from Grand Duke Henri to his son.
Below is a full preview of what to expect on that landmark Saturday — from the daytime tour across the country to the musical and visual spectacle in the evening.
A Day of Symbolic Visits: “Dem Grand-Duc seng feierlech Tournée”
From midday to evening, the new Grand Duke and Grand Duchess will undertake a nationwide tour visiting five key localities, each chosen to reflect a facet of Luxembourg society and to pay tribute to citizens’ contributions across fields.
The route is as follows:
-
Grevenmacher — where he will meet volunteers, sports advocates, and civil society actors.
-
Wiltz — hosting a convivial event with a participatory video installation and musical performance, celebrating the cultural diversity and community life of the region.
-
Steinfort — to recognize healthcare workers and patients, highlighting the solidarity and kindness central to Luxembourgish society.
-
Dudelange — here a choreographed performance (dance, acrobatics, spoken word, percussion) will trace social transformation and creative vitality, especially rooted in the industrial past of the south.
-
Luxembourg City / Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge (Pont Rouge, the “Red Bridge”) — the tour culminates with the Grand Duke and Duchess crossing the bridge in a ceremonial moment, accompanied by orchestral music and a tram “ballet” that brings together multiple symbolic themes expressed through decorated trams.
During the day, public celebrations will also occur in Wiltz, Dudelange, and Luxembourg City, each hosting its own cultural and entertainment programme and broadcasting live coverage of the Grand Ducal tour from noon until midnight.
Evening Spectacle on Glacis: Concert + Drone Show
The highlight of the evening will take place at Glacis square (Allée Scheffer) in Luxembourg City:
-
At 22:00, a ceremony on the Glacis square marks the official start.
-
22:34 is the scheduled launch of the drone show, followed by a major concert of Luxembourgish artists.
-
The concert will showcase a diverse roster of local talent—spanning genres from jazz to hip-hop, rock to classical.

The Drone Show & Visual Highlights
The drone show is custom-designed for the event — a choreographed aerial light performance above Glacis square, synchronized to musical accompaniment and designed to evoke themes of unity, diversity, progress, and national identity.
Earlier in the evening, the crossing of the Grand Duke and Duchess over the Pont Rouge (Charlotte Bridge) will itself be a spectacle — with orchestral music, tram choreography (a “ballet of trams”), and symbolic tableaux involving representatives from different sectors of Luxembourg society.
Additionally, in Dudelange, the local performance will feature dance, acrobatics, free running, percussion, circus acts, spoken word, plus various musical elements. This acts as a regional focal point of the nationwide celebration.
Why 4 October Is So Important
-
This is the first “working day” of Grand Duke Guillaume’s reign — symbolically he opens his reign among the people, not in closed ceremony.
-
The day is explicitly designed to honour the diversity, skill, solidarity and culture of Luxembourg’s citizens, with the ruler meeting people across regions and celebrating local creativity.
-
The evening programme is both festive and symbolic: bridging past and future, tradition and innovation, with music, drones, and large-scale artistic staging.
What Follows (3 & 5 October)
-
The festivities begin on 3 October, with the abdication of Grand Duke Henri, the swearing-in of Guillaume, public appearances, and an evening gala.
-
On 5 October, the celebrations conclude with a Te Deum (thanksgiving service) at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg City, presided over by Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich.
This 4 October event promises to be a momentous fusion of pageantry, local culture, and public engagement — a fitting inauguration for a new Grand Duke and a bold welcome to the future of the Luxembourg monarchy.
