‘Capitani’ Secures Funding for Season Three Script
Luxembourg’s hit detective drama Capitani is officially on track for a third season. The Film Fund Luxembourg announced Monday that it has awarded €60,000 in script development funding to production company Samsa Film and writer Thierry Faber.
First broadcast on RTL Luxembourg in 2019, the series found international success when it launched on Netflix in early 2021. It quickly climbed viewing charts worldwide, reaching number one in Argentina, Greece, and Uruguay, and breaking into the top five in more than 25 other countries.
Directed by Christophe Wagner—winner of the Luxembourg Film Prize for his 2012 neo-noir Doudege Wénkel (Blind Spot) and his 2016 historical drama Eng nei Zäit (Tomorrow After The War)—Capitani holds the distinction of being Luxembourg’s first detective series both produced and set in the country.
Actor Luc Schiltz led the first two seasons as Inspector Luc Capitani, a blunt and brooding outsider tasked with solving a mysterious death in a rural village. The cast also featured well-known Luxembourg talents such as Jules Werner, Desirée Nosbusch, Luc Feidt, Sophie Mousel, and rising star Jil Devresse, who played twin sisters.
The Film Fund’s latest round of grants supported 14 projects in total. Among them is another Samsa Film crime drama: Loïc Tanson’s historical true-crime series Marginal, which has been awarded €3 million toward a second season, on a budget exceeding €4 million.
