Luxembourg opens the doors to some of its most fascinating cultural treasures as the 29th edition of Luxembourg Museum Days returns on 16–17 May. Across the country, 36 museums will welcome visitors free of charge, offering a unique opportunity to explore Luxembourg’s rich heritage, contemporary art scene, and hidden historical gems.
From 10am to 6pm on both days, museums throughout the Grand Duchy will host an exciting programme of exhibitions, guided tours, workshops, live performances, and concerts designed for all ages. Whether you are passionate about modern art, military history, photography, science, or local traditions, Luxembourg Museum Days offers something for every curious resident and traveller.
The event has become one of Luxembourg’s biggest cultural weekends, attracting nearly 19,000 visitors in 2025 alone. This year, organisers are once again expecting large crowds as locals and tourists alike take advantage of free access to museums usually spread across every corner of the country.
Visitors can experience internationally recognised cultural institutions such as Mudam Luxembourg – Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean, Casino Luxembourg – Forum d’art contemporain, and Villa Vauban – Musée d’Art de la Ville de Luxembourg, while also discovering smaller museums dedicated to Luxembourg’s industrial heritage, rural traditions, transport history, and wartime stories.
Beyond the capital, cultural highlights include Maison de Victor Hugo, the world-renowned photography exhibition The Family of Man, and the historic Musée de Schengen, located in the village where the famous European agreement was signed.
This year’s international theme, “Museums Uniting a Divided World”, highlights the important role museums play in bringing communities together through dialogue, culture, and shared history. Organised annually by the International Council of Museums as part of International Museum Day on 18 May, the event celebrates museums as places of understanding, inclusion, and connection.
Some workshops and special activities require advance booking directly with participating museums, so visitors are encouraged to check the official programme before travelling.
Participating museums include locations in Luxembourg City, Esch-sur-Alzette, Clervaux, Vianden, Diekirch, Dudelange, Echternach, Wiltz, Rumelange, Mondorf-les-Bains, and many more destinations across the country — making Luxembourg Museum Days the perfect excuse for a cultural road trip through the Grand Duchy.
